Due to the way it was designed, this virus is virtually extinct. The MacMag virus was originally distributed in a HyperCard stack called “New Apple Products.” When this stack was opened, the virus infected the computer’s System file. When another floppy disk with a System file was inserted, the virus infected that System file. Then the virus remained dormant until the anniversary of the introduction of the Mac II. When the computer was started on that date, the virus displayed a peace message on the screen, then deleted itself from the system.
